Attention: All Coaches, Parents and Players

Having experienced the format of 10 team divisions for the first time last year, we experimented with the format. At each of the coaches meetings, I explained what we had done and why and asked for input as to what the teams wanted on each of the changes. We had some serious concerns over the formatting we tried last year and tried to address them for this season. The 2 most important were the seeding of who plays who and also the final day scheduling problems.

We have spent hours discussing this with teams. We have a set amount of ice that we can use and try to follow the most important issues that teams seem to have. Some of these issues are: a bronze game is necessary, 3 games in a day is a problem, 6 game guarantee is best when teams do not play all of the other teams, a prolonged Sunday requiring teams to get out of the arena after supper time is late. In trying to involve the "wish" list we had several options for the Sunday.

We found a formatting that would allow for 6 games guarantee but would have required just a final (gold/silver) game. As this was not going to fit in order to put in a bronze game, we tried to find another solution. Faced with only a final game and no bronze medal at all, we felt that we needed to ensure 4 teams went on past the round robin. The only solution we could find was the one that we have used this year.

The use of the rankings for seeding is new (the whole system is only in its second year). Up until this time we actually drew from a hat to see who played who. The system used last year was felt to be too heavily weighted and so we evaluated other ways to do it. The system presented in this format was the one that the G&T committee decided to go with.

This is all a relatively new process and the formatting, ranking, seeding, and Sunday schedule are all under review for our April Standing Committee Meeting. At that time we will be evaluating any comments and suggestions. There will also be a coaching survey that is going to be put out that we have been working on as well and the results will be used to assist in making future decisions.

We always welcome input and will look forward to any suggestions that you have for scheduling and we will address them at our meeting.

Yours in Ringette,

Jo-Ann Wilson
