Administers the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)
CSI Trained (Community Sport Initiation Trained):
For individuals who coach community level and house-league teams
Introductory coaching course offered by ORA which includes an ethics section but does not include the MED module.
CSI Certified:
CSI Trained plus successfully pass the MED online CSI evaluation
CI Trained (Competition Introduction Trained): will be renamed CI-1 in 2010-2011
For individuals who coach competitive teams (at the A level)
Intermediate coaching course offered by ORA (includes MED module for upgrade)
CI Gradation Trained (Competition Introduction Gradation - CIg): will be renamed CI-2 in 2010-2011
For individuals who coach elite teams (at the AA level)
Advanced coaching course offered by ORA to coaches who are CI Trained
CI Certified (Competition Introduction Certified):
CI Trained and on-ice evaluation
CI Gradation and on-ice evaluation
Successful completion of on-line MED Evaluation (NCCP)
CD Trained (Competition Development Trained):
For individuals who coach at the National level
Attend and complete CD courses and training including 6 Multi- Sport Modules (CAO) and 3 Sport Specific Modules (Ringette Canada)
MED - Making Ethical Decisions
Module: 3–4 hour ethics course required for upgrading/maintaining your qualifications
Trained: 3-4 hour ethics course (MED Module) – included in CI clinic or as a stand-alone
Certified: successfully complete the appropriate online evaluation
Level 1 Certification
Successful completion of all components: Technical 1, Practical 1 and Theory 1
Level 2 Certification
Level 1 Certified and successful completion all components: Theory 2, Technical 2 and Practical 2
Level 3 Certification
Level 2 Certified and successful completions of all components: Theory 3, Technical 3 and Practical 3
Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Certifications
These qualifications are considered “Grandfathered” by the ORA and are no longer offered. Coaches with these qualifications are exempt and do not have to recertify under the new system. Grandfathered coaches are required to take the appropriate upgrade/maintenance course(s).
Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 - Partial Certification:
If an individual has not completed all three components (theory, technical and practical) for any given level, (s)he is considered partially certified at that level. Equivalency charts should be available for the 2010-2011 season for coaches to complete their levels. These levels are for coaches trained under the old system.
Upgrade/Maintenance course(s):
Ongoing maintenance and professional development courses are required every five-year cycle after completion of certification in order to remain qualified.
Coaches who do not complete the required upgrades/maintenance courses will be removed from bench staff until the requirements are met
CSI Certified/Level 1 Certified coaches (trained prior to 2005-2006) are required to take two professional development modules (in addition to the MED module) by 2014-2015
CI Certified/Level 2 Certified coaches are required to take three professional development modules (in addition to the MED module) by 2014-2015

Additional courses 2010-2011: Teaching and Learning; Mental Training; and Nutrition
Additional Courses 2012-2013: Coaching Girls and Women; and Goalkeeping
Sanctioned Events: O.R.A. defines Sanctioned Events as:
Invitational Tournaments
Regional Championships
Regional Preliminary Championships/Qualifiers
Provincial Championships/Qualifiers
For O.R.A. disciplinary purposes, any game between two (2) Registered O.R.A. teams
or between any other Province’s teams with an O.R.A. registered team.
Assistant Coach in Training
CSI or CI Trained - depending on level of play
Coaches may train a person sixteen (16) or seventeen (17) years of age, to be referred to as an “Assistant Coach in Training”. These individuals can be on the bench during sanctioned events, with no official duties, if they have the proper qualifications. They are included in the maximum number of five (5) persons on the bench.
Registration
When registering with ORA, choose the primary position (that you are qualified for). You can register your other (qualified) position with your association as an independent (or on your second team if you are on the bench staff for more than one team). Teams are encouraged to register a maximum of five bench staff: use an ICF to substitute bench staff.
